Flea Control

Flea Control

PEST HUNTERZ offers a quick and effective flea control across London. Cat and dog fleas are a common flea problem in U.K homes, especially those with pest infestations.

You may discover a problem with fleas even if you do not have pets especially if previous owners of your property kept cats or dogs.

Fleas can also be carried on other (especially hairy) animals like rabbits, rats, mice, foxes, squirrels and livestock such as pigs.

Once fleas are on your property, if there is not an animal around, they resort to biting humans, usually around the ankles and legs.

It is very important to get a professional pest control technician to completely remove the infestation and protect your home and pet from further bites.

Common signs of fleas in your home

1

Live fleas

Fleas or flea droppings can often be found in the fur of your cat or dog.

You might see adult fleas hopping on carpets, sofas, pet bedding and clothes.

Top tip: If you are not sure if the black specks in your pet's fur are fleas, put a couple of drops of water on it, if it turns red, you have fleas.

2

Flea eggs

Killing flea eggs is crucial to effectively control a flea infestation because a large majority of the flea population exists as eggs. Without professional help it can be difficult to get rid of flea eggs. The majority of time, customers say that the fleas keep coming back when in reality they have had them the whole time and are only dealing with the live fleas and not looking for flea eggs. Whilst the flea eggs are laid in the fur of your pet, they often fall off into carpets, rugs, pet bedding, soft furnishings and wherever your pet travels. These eggs are tiny white ovals, if not treated, the eggs will hatch and the infestation will continue.

3

Flea bites

You might notice itchy red dots along your shins, ankles, feet and arms. Multiple flea bites often appear as a straight line on your lower limbs.

4

Flea dirt

Flea dirt is tiny black dots that you can find on your pet, furniture, carpets, rugs or pet bedding.

Insecticides treatment

1

First inspection

Our experienced team of flea technicians will treat your property with professional and effective insecticides spray which, is a chemical that kills, repels or harms fleas that has a prolonged residual effect.

Pupae often survive treatment, so it is usual to carry out a second spray treatment to ensure adequate insecticides are available when they eventually hatch out.

2

Second inspection

We will come back after 2 to 3 weeks to repeat the same treatment carried out in the first inspection to help prevent an infestation.

We will check if there are any new eggs or fleas. If we see something new or suspicious, we will investigate.

What is required for effective flea treatment

1

Pre-treatment

If you have any pet cats or dogs they must have already been treated with a professional flea treatment from a veterinary practice.

Vacuum the premises, paying attention to floors and upholstered furniture.

You should also vacuum pet bedding, under furniture, chairs, sofas cushions, carpets and rugs.

Dispose the contents of the vacuum cleaner securely and into an outside waste bin.

The whole floor area needs to be treated, so make sure to remove any items that would cause an obstruction.

People and pets must be out of the property for at least 3-4 hours to allow the treatment to be applied and dry.

Upon your return to the property, open all windows.

2

Post-treatment

Use the treated area as normal as your presence in rooms will bring out the fleas from harbourage and into contact with the insecticides.

Do not hoover or sweep treated areas until the day before the next visit or a minimum of 14 days, as this removes the insecticides strength.
