Cockroach Control

Cockroach Control

Discovering there are cockroaches in your home or business can be very distressing therefore, you must act immediately.

Exposure to this pest poses significant health risks as cockroaches are known carriers of diseases such as Salmonella, Dysentry and Gastroenteritis. They will eat anything from foods, paper, packaging, fabrics and animal matter. Cockroaches can rapidly grow in numbers, so it is important to get a professional pest controller in as soon as possible to eliminate all stages of their life cycle.

Oriental and German cockroaches are most common and are more likely to be found in UK homes and business premises. Cockroaches are distinguished by their very long whip-like antennae, flat oval bodies and rapid jerky walk.

German cockroach

The adult German cockroach is light yellow / brown and is 10mm to 15mm long, with two distinguishable dark stripes on its thorax.

Oriental cockroach

The oriental cockroach is shiny black, brown or mahogany and measures around 20mm to 24mm.

Why control Cockroaches

1

Disease transmission

Cockroaches can carry bacteria like Salmonella, E.coli, and staphylococcus which can cause food poisoning and other illnesses when they contaminate food surfaces.

2

Allergic reactions

Cockroach droppings and shed skin trigger allergic reactions, particularly in people with asthma, causing symptoms like sneezing, coughing, and breathing difficulties.

3

Food contamination

Cockroaches can contaminate food by crawling on it and leaving behind faeces and saliva, making it unsafe to consume.

4

Unpleasant odour

Cockroaches produce a foul odour which can be noticeable in heavily infested areas, especially under sinks, behind appliances or in store cupboards.

Signs of cockroach infestation

1

Seeing them

You might see cockroaches crawling on walls, floors or counter tops.

2

Cockroaches droppings

Cockroach droppings look like coffee ground or black pepper, and can be cylindrical in shape.

3

Egg cases

Cockroaches will produce an egg case that they will leave in a dark crevice while the eggs are gestating.

4

Shedded skin

At each stage of growth, cockroaches will shed their skin, leaving behind a visible exoskeleton. This shedding happens 5-8 times before they become an adult.

5

Unusual smell

An established cockroach infestation produces an oily, musty or foul smell that taints items that they contact.

6

Damage to food packaging

Cockroaches will feed on almost anything including refuse and even other cockroaches.

Common places to find cockroaches

Cockroaches are attracted to dark humid places with food and moisture. Some common places to find them include:

3

Bathroom

Behind the toilet, under the sink, in the bathtub drain, around the shower.

6

Cracks and crevices

Any small cracks or gaps in walls, floors and ceilings.

7

PEST HUNTERZ Cockroach Treatment

1

First inspection

At PEST HUNTERZ, our British Pest Control Association (BPCA) certified technicians will carry out a thorough inspection of your property to find out where and how the infestation has been established. Proofing recommendations will always be given by our technicians when identified.

We will use the latest cockroach spray insecticide and gel bait which consists of cockroach food and a slow acting insecticide. Our technician will spray the insecticide in the infested areas and a gel will be placed in infested and suitable places. This will make the treatment extremely effective.

2

Second inspection

We will come back after 14-21 days to inspect your property and help prevent an infestation. We will ensure that no more cockroaches are left in your property. Our technician will advise on how to prevent future infestation.

3

Safety

Do not come back home for 4 hours after the treatment begins. Make sure pets, children and people with breathing issues do not enter the home until another person checks to make sure all surfaces are dry and no odour is present. ( If after 4 hours odours are still present, open windows to air out the home. Do not touch the cockroach gel bait.)

4

Pre-treatment

Remove dishes, food and items from cabinets and vacuum the edges of the cabinets, and drawers. This will help remove roach eggs.

Thoroughly clean kitchen surfaces, floors, including around the fridge, washing machine and cooker.

Large appliances such as refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine and cooker will need to be moved away enough from the wall so the technician will be able to get behind them.

Move large furniture away from walls.

Store food in airtight containers, clean up spills and take out the rubbish and bins.
