Bed Bug Control

Bed Bug Control

Bed bug infestation are rising across London, as people travel for both business, work and leisure.

These hitchhiking pests can find their way into your home on luggage, cloths, furniture etc. A female bed bug can lay up to 200 -500 eggs over a two month period in batches of 10-50. Once established they can move easily between rooms and properties. It is important to treat early to prevent an extensive infestation.

What are Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are insects that feed on blood of humans and animals. They are small, flat oval shaped and wingless. Adult bed bugs are reddish-brown, but turn rust red after feeding on blood. Adult bed bugs grow about 5mm length, and young bed bugs or nymphs, are smaller and can appear translucent, or yellow in colour. They often live on furniture or bedding.

What is Heat treatment?

Heat treatment is the latest non-toxic, chemical free and most effective way to completely eradicate bed bugs. We at PEST HUNTERZ use indirect space heaters to raise the temperature of an infested area to above 50 degrees celcius. This temperature is lethal to bed bugs but safe for treated areas, and we maintain it for an extended period.

The heat completely eradicates the life cycle of the bed bugs, killing everything including eggs, larvae, pupae and adult bed bugs.

We will come back after 2 to 3 weeks to inspect your home and repeat the same treatment carried out in the first treatment to help prevent an infestation. We will check if there are any new pests. If we see something new or suspicious, we will investigate.

What to do before and after bed bug chemical treatment

1

Pre-treatment

Empty under bed storage, wardrobe, drawers and cabinets.

Remove all bedding and take down curtains and nets.

Clothes, bedding, curtains and nets should be placed inside two plastic bags in the room where bed bugs are active before being carried to the washing area.

Wash all clothes, bedding, curtains and nets in a hot wash 60 degree celsius or above ( check manufacturers guideline). Also tumble dry these items on a high heat for 30 mins to kill the bed bugs.

Vacuum the room thoroughly such as edges, cracks, soft furniture, and if possible lift the edge of the carpet and vacuum here too. Empty the vacuum bag inside 2 plastic bags outside and seal before putting the bag inside the waste bin.

Please do not move anything out of the infested room to another room.

People and pets must be out of the property for at least 3 to 4 hours to allow the treatment to be applied and dry.

2

Preparation is key

Please note that if the above housekeeping processes are not carried out, the treatment may not be successful. The technician will advise you on his first treatment if preparation was not adequate, this will be recorded on his report sheet left on site.

3

Post treatment

Once the insecticides has dried, please use the rooms to sleep in as usual. This will attract the bed bugs out of hiding and onto the treated areas. If you do not use the beds, the bug will not be killed.

Please do not vacuum for 2 to 3 weeks after the treatment as this removes the insecticides strength.
